Baby Sun Protection Clothing: Fact to Consider When Shopping For Baby

There is no greater family fun than taking to the beach or park and spending time together. Under the sun, there are genuine health concerns for everyone – especially babies. The unforgiving sunlight makes baby sun protection clothing a major consideration, protecting them from risks related to UV rays.

Sunscreen cannot provide complete protection against the sun, so you need other options to protect against UVA radiation which does not cause burning but does develop skin cancer. This is where sun protection clothing for babies becomes essential.

Stingray is synonymous with protection against the sun, with a range of clothing specifically designed to block harmful UVA rays. Our range includes baby sun protection clothing, ensuring fun in the sun for every family member.

The Sun and Babies

So how real are the dangers of sunlight for babies and young children? Well, there’s no doubt sunlight is vital for growth and development. Baby’s skin is more sensitive, thus more vulnerable to UV radiation.

Studies suggest babies that suffer sunburn are more likely to develop cancer later in life. Baby skin has:

  • A thinner outer skin layer.
  • Less of the protective pigment melanin.

UV rays can reach and damage melanin-producing cells. It’s vital babies under 2 years get extra protection, such as baby sun protection clothing.

Steps to Keep Baby Safe

So, how do you maximize protection from damaging sun rays? Well, as well as getting sun protection clothing for babies, there are other measures you can take.

  • To provide some shade, apply a mesh shield to your car window when traveling. UV window film can screen out about 99% UV radiation.
  • While outdoors, have baby wear baby sun protection clothing at all times.
  • Have baby wear a wide-brimmed hat to protect its head, face, neck and ears.
  • Go for walks early in the morning or late afternoon. Have baby in a stroller with a sun-protective cover.

6-12 months:

  • Sunscreen can be applied now. Use broad-spectrum, SPF 15+ sunscreen to uncovered areas, such as baby's hands.
  • Apply 30 minutes before going outside Reapply every two hours, after swimming or sweating.
